Namely, the name Tuzla comes from the Turkish word for salt, which reminds us of the wealth of this region with salt since the time of the ancient Romans. This is a place where salt and salt water have turned into a source of life and prosperity for the local population over the centuries.

BLIDINJE NATURE PARK HIDES A MAGICAL LAKE, A DEEP CANYON AND BEAUTIFUL VIEWPOINTS

Just an hour and a half drive from the Adriatic coast, in northern Herzegovina, in the high mountains of the central Dinarides, is the spectacular Blidinje Nature Park. And why it is so becomes clear with one panoramic view of it – it is a wonderful blue decorated with islands and peninsulas, bordered by greenery and mountains, a place that looks like some fictional landscape. In fact, we could say that it is ‘invented’. Namely, that incredibly beautiful lake is essentially an artificial, reservoir lake located on the Rama River, one of the most important tributaries of the Neretva. It was born in 1968, it belongs to the municipality of Prozor-Rama in Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is 70 kilometers from Mostar, and about 100 kilometers from Sarajevo.

UNUSUAL STONE BALLS IN ZAVIDOVIĆI

Halfway between Zenica and Doboj, in the forest near the town of Zavidovići, there is a phenomenon for which science offers no concrete answers, but only theories. Namely, almost 60 stone balls of extremely regular shape were found in that area, some of which are as much as 2 meters in diameter, and no one knows who made them and why they are there. Theories try to explain them as if they were the unexpected result of the movement of glaciers in the distant past or that they were the remains of meteorites. The braver theoreticians claim that the stone balls in the village of Zavidovići are the remains of some ancient civilization.

JAJCE: FORMER CAPITAL OF BOSNIAN KINGS

Jajce is one of the most interesting, but also the most underrated places to visit in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a true jewel of the Balkans. The city has a long and interesting history, and you can see it in numerous preserved sights. Its entire area was already inhabited in ancient times. The peak of prosperity was experienced in the Middle Ages when Jajce was the capital of the independent Bosnian kingdom.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the waterfall of the river Pliva in the center of the city, visit the Temple of God Mithras, climb to the Old Town of Jajce and see the catacombs… Then treat yourself to traditional dishes such as pita under the sach, egg omelette, Bosnian pot.

BLAGAJ: A HIDDEN GEM NOT FAR FROM MOSTAR

The famous Tekija was once the home of dervishes and is one of the most valuable objects of Islamic culture in BiH, so it is not surprising that today it holds the title of national monument of this country. It is located in Blagaj near Mostar, at the source of the Buna river, otherwise the largest karst source in Europe. In addition to natural beauty and interesting history, this picnic spot also attracts tourists because of various legends that are still talked about today.

One of them says that a terrible dragon lived in the cave of the hot springs of Bune, which the dervish Salih was the only one to overcome while rescuing the daughter of Herceg Stjepan. As a thank you for saving his daughter, he built a tekkia in the place where he defeated the dragon. Arriving in Blagaj is like a time machine, and the turquoise shades of the river and the karst rocks that surround it are a real natural apaurin.
